title: '38c3 Tour of the giants'
summary: |
Experience Germany's largest seaport from a completely new perspective. Port terminals around the world are security areas - and for the public it means: “No entry!” Not for us. As a cooperation partner of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), the Tour of the Giants exclusively shows you the Port of Hamburg behind the scenes.
---
![HHLA CTB AM](HHLA_CTB_AM.jpg "CC BY-SA 4.0, HHLA - Anke Maurer")
![HHLA Container Terminal Altenwerder (CTA)](HHLA_Container_Terminal_Altenwerder_(CTA)_in_Hamburg_-_Winter_2010_-_04.jpg "CC BY-SA 3.0, Frank Grunwald - Frankenwagen")
### Tour
In the first part, the three-hour bus tour shows the development of the port of Hamburg over more than 800 years as if on a journey through time. In the historic Speicherstadt warehouse district and at the “50er Schuppen”, the oldest preserved port facilities in the Port of Hamburg, the time of conventional goods handling with crates, sacks and barrels is brought back to life. On the trip over the Köhlbrand Bridge, you can enjoy a fascinating bird's eye view of the huge port area from a height of almost 60 meters. Our bus driver then switches on the distinctive warning lights on the roof - and we take you right into the heart of the action: Huge container gantry cranes, high-legged straddle carriers, driverless transport platforms - we take you into the exciting world of logistics.
During the tour, expert guides explain all the technical and logistical details and leave no question unanswered.
### Terminals
Two of the four terminals are available to us for the Tour of the Giants available:
#### Burchardkai/CTB
Burchardkai/CTB is the oldest and largest container handling terminal in the Port of Hamburg and handles almost every third container in the Port of Hamburg. 30 container gantry cranes work on the thousands of ships that dock here every year, and several hundred rail wagons are loaded and unloaded every day.
#### Containerterminal Altenwerder/CTA
The Altenwerder/CTA container terminal is an impressive example of largely automated logistics. We will show you driverless, computer-controlled transport platforms up close, which move the containers back and forth between the quayside and block storage as if by magic.
#### OSwaldkai
A good 500,000 tons of tropical fruit, cars and heavy cargo are handled at the O'Swaldkai multi-purpose terminal every year. Liner services from South and Central America can also handle general cargo and containers at the multi-purpose terminal.
#### Hansaport
And Hansaport is Germany's largest seaport terminal for iron ore and coal. Inconspicuous from the outside, pure high-tech on the inside. More than 10% of Hamburg's total port throughput is handled here, or around 15 million tons of incoming tonnage per year.
### Info & Details
**Important:** Every passenger requires a valid identity card or passport. This also applies to children. The original document must be shown on the bus. Luggage may not be taken on board. Please note [this further information on the event (DE only)](https://www.jasper.de/faq/). High-security areas that are subject to the ISPS code are used and when booking the tour, the surname, first name of the participants are required and this data is transmitted to the organizer in advance.
**Children**: The minimum age for participation in the harbor tour is 4 years. Please note that the tour has a complex technical structure and is only suitable for small children to a limited extent. Depending on the interests and patience of the children, we recommend participation from approx. 6-8 years of age at the earliest.
