Until the middle of the 20th century, the area of the Gängeviertel extended from the seaport and the district of Neustadt to the city centre of Hamburg. It was a maze of dilapidated half-timbered houses - and a home for the poor and outcasts in one of Europes richest cities.

As a result of decades of demolition waves and destruction, there is hardly anything left that reminds us of this dark place. Since their occupation in 2009, the remaining houses have become home to a vibrant art and culture scene that can boast a variety of projects.

Whether workshops, dance evenings, concerts and raves or improvisation theater, exhibitions and readings: there is surely something for everyone.
